Correlative vs. Causative Relationship between Neonatal Cranial Head Shape Anomalies and Early Developmental Delays

In this mini-review of 2017 we can see the clear relationship between plagiocephaly and neurodevelopmental problems. Good introduction to cranial asymmetries.

Criteria DSM-IV TR for the diagnosis of ADHD (ES)

Form used by pediatric neurologists and child psychiatrists to determine attention deficit with or without activity. It allows to understand what a diagnosis based on symptoms and not on the causes.

Development at Age 36 Months in Children With Deformational Plagiocephaly

One of the works (2013), that show how pre-school children who had plagiocephaly presented lower results in neurodevelopmental assessment. This justifies again the reprogramming PIMT in this type of babies.

Development prediction

A relevant article (2016) about the relationship between neural development in specific moments within the first year and its correlation with different cognitive aspects at ages 5 and 6. It focuses on different aspects related to language. It is a very interesting text to support the relationship between neural development and cognition in children.

Helmet therapy in infants with positional skull deformation

In this work of 2014, the authors criticize the use of helmet despite the large number of items in favor. They do it because of the high cost and the evolution of those who do not.

How the development of handedness could contribute to the development of language

Very interesting work from 2013 on the possible relationship between laterality and language development in humans from an evolutionary, anthropological and biological perspective.

Neonatal pathology associated with the birth process (ES)

Revision in Spanish of 2008 on the main problems in relation to childbirth, all from a medical perspective. Well developed and classified.

Low weight learning disabilities

Interesting work of 2016 in which the relationships between low birth weight and the consequent problems of development in pre-school age are seen. It helps to justify PIMT in development for all babies at risk cause of their birth weight.

Persistent primary reflexes affect motor acts- Potential implications for autism spectrum disorder

Work of 2015 in which different findings are confirmed in primitive reflexes and abnormal motor patterns in children with autism spectrum problems. We can appreciate how the work of the circuits in PIMT is interesting for children with different kind of pathology.

Plagiocephaly Severity Scale

Document (2015) very useful that shows the severity scale of a plagiocephaly according to its Cranial Vault Asymmetry Index. It allows to understand the situation of each baby in relation to their craniometric measurements.

Torticollis Development Delay

2009 study that shows how babies with torticollis are much more at risk of having a developmental delay. Again, it shows the need to integrate PIMT function in the work of PIMT structure.

Validity AIMS scale

Publication that validates the use of the Alberta Scale for the Spanish population. Very useful to justify our work and use this scale in the reports to pediatricians. Every year PIMT offers a workshop for the use of this scale.

Ten principles of good interdisciplinary team work

An interesting article published in the journal Human Resources for Health on the 10 principles that make it possible to create a good multidisciplinary team. PIMT is particularly focused on the collaboration between different professionals. Highly recommendable!

The development of motor behavior

Time to revisit tummy time: A commentary on plagiocephaly and development

A Practical Approach to Classifying and Managing Feeding Difficulties

Optimal positions for the release of primitive neonatal reflexes stimulating breastfeeding

Hard to Swallow: Developmental Biological Insights into Pediatric Dy

Manual therapy for the pediatric population: a systematic review

In this recent systematic review, the most complete to date, positive results are observed with three phenomena especially: low back pain,
pulled elbow and premature children. In other aspects there is not enough quality in the evidence. I recommend it … little by little the manual therapy in pediatrics opens.

Congenital Muscular Torticollis, bridging research and clinical practice

In this interesting and recent article of 2019, the authors clearly gather the recommendations for the parents of caera to prevent asymmetries and torticolis.
Prone at least 3 times per day, development positions, review of development delays, etc. It also gives clues about the evaluation
of the physiotherapist and the need to gain passive and active rotation and educate parents.  A great summary highly recommended

Development of the WHO guidelines on physical activity, screens and sleep for children under 5 years old

It is interesting to know the specific WHO recommendations regarding fundamental aspects of child development such as physical activity,
the amount of time in front of a screen and sleep. These possible interference factors have to be present for a PIMT physiotherapist in front of a family with a child with developmental problems.

A natural History of skills (2018)

This article is key to understanding TMPi’s evolutionary model for nervous system programming. Experimental evidence of the relationship between automated skills and connection circuits between cortex and basal ganglia is reviewed. It also allows from a scientific perspective to update the concept of MacLean’s triune brain.

Validity and reliability of the muscle function scale, aimed to assess the lateral flexors of the neck in infants

Interesting article by Ohman, great specialist in congenital torticollis, on the quantification of cervical involvement in babies using the MFS Test. They use our Fernandez test to do so but with a value for the different neck positions. Although something is left… guess what…
